Fight Or Flight: A South Side Story

Forbidden love and fierce rivalry drive Jeff Hollister, a street-smart high school senior and gang leader of the Hurricanes, to the brink of disaster. Thinking he’s got the world in his back pocket, and the police at a safe distance, he and his scrappy gang of teenage delinquents come to discover they don’t always come out on top after all.

My next book signing event will be at the Connecticut Valley Brewery located at 765 Sullivan Avenue in South Windsor.  The brewery is hosting a Brewery Book Worms event on the south outdoor seating area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The event is to promote local artists and authors, and for me it doesn't get much more local than this. Sullivan Avenue was the inspiration for the fictitious Burrough Street in Fight or Flight, and the Upper and Lower Plazas featured so prominently in the story are located about a mile up the road.  (The Country Store located at 960 Sullivan Ave actually was a 7-11 store when I started writing the story and the two plazas on either side of the road served as [...]

March 31st was Easter Sunday and it was also the one-year anniversary date of the release of Fight or Flight. I was hoping to commemorate the date on this site, but instead Wendy and I were out in Beaver Creek, Colorado with our friends Richard "Krash" Krasner and his wife Cynthia. Here's a picture of Rich with his copy of the book, standing on the patio of their awesome time-share unit with a beautiful vista of Beaver Creek Mountain. Cynthia actually took this picture with my phone because Wendy and I couldn't get near him--unfortunately we both came down with some nasty respiratory virus thing, and he was slated for back fusion surgery the day after we returned to the Denver area, so it really [...]

Okay, I'm talking about a LOT of rain. It's been a wet and wild winter in Connecticut this year, and as it turns out, the weather washed out my book signing event at The Dublin in East Hampton last week. My wife and I still attended the event, and I had a nice setup, but nobody came, save one couple that we already knew. Oh well. Still, the restaurant is an amazing venue and I'm grateful for the opportunity to  appear there with my book. I met the owner, Bob, who was super friendly and who has really built his restaurant into a central attraction for his community.(I don't remember Bob's last name, unfortunately.)  I also got to meet Jack Matthews, who runs a Facebook [...]

I've got two events booked so far this month, Dinner with an Author at The Dublin in East Hampton, CT on March 5th, and the London Book Fair running from March 12th - 14th. Offer is good from now until St Patrick's Day. Lots more on the audiobook coming soon!

I'm happy to announce that Fight or Flight is going International!  I've registered to have my book displayed at the London Book Fair next month. The dates are March 12th to 14th, in case you happen to be there, As much as I'd love to be there, I can't--I don't even have a passport yet! So Fight or Flight will have to be my ambassador for the time being, and hopefully I'll get out there at a later date. It's on my Bucket List!

As I work to get this webpage viable, I wanted to take a moment early on to shout out to my editor, Anne Victory, and her wonderful editing services company, Victory Editing. While I've never actually met Anne in person--I've only spoken to her on the telephone--I nonetheless feel that she has been a great ally in my efforts to self-publish Fight or Flight. Victory Editing has it all, from development editing to line editing to proofreading, not to mention an invaluable Oops Detection service designed to catch those little nagging errors in punctuation, usage, and other annoying little bugs that persist in your writing no matter how many times your bloodshot eyes glaze over your prose. Anne has been patiently supportive of me for [...]

This was pretty cool. Fight or Flight was named a Finalist in the 2023 American Fiction Awards by American Book Fest in the Adventure: General category! And I don't know how significant it is, but FOF was apparently the only independently-published book entered to be named a finalist. So that's a great honor, and the recognition is much appreciated! Hopefully more to come in 2024...

My first truly public book signing event was postponed last weekend due to tropical storm Ophelia. The new date is Oct 14th. I am having a booth at the South Windsor Apple Festival, and I'll have signed copies of Fight or Flight at special Fair pricing. I'll also be giving out an undetermined number of free audiobooks drawn from a list of those who sign up for my email list. And I'll have other deals for the audiobook as well that I hope to announce real soon. If you're local to the Hartford area, please come to the South Windsor Apple Festival and stop by my booth--it's free parking and free admission, and there's lots of fun to be had!

Wow, it's hard to believe it's been nearly two months since I held my Book Launch event on June 16th at Nevers Park in South Windsor, CT. I wanted to post about it sooner, but July was one crazy month, and with all the other demands on my time, I really struggled to get back to this website. WordPress is quite a bit different from the site builder I used  (Squarespace) when I was a wee blogger at Trinity College. Now, I had a great time at the book launch, and the crowd was pretty amazing--it was so cool to have so many friends and family come out to show their support for me as a newly published author! (I'll share more on that and [...]

Hey! So this Wordpress thing is new to me, and I'm trying to figure things out. I'm hoping this turns out to be a great blog about Fight or Flight: A South Side Story. But it's going to take me a little while to get the hang of it. Baby steps....
